Crash Lab

My First Patternless Dress!

I pretty much never sew without a set pattern, so it was fun to be able to put the fabric up on the form and just see what comes out. Sometimes what comes out isn't great, but the class was 6 hours, plenty of time to McGyver a pleasant outcome. It's not great,BUT I do like 2 things about it.
#1 being this gigantic bow. I wish it was bigger, and took up the entire back view. Like an explosion. A bustle explosion.
And #2 being these drawn in ruffles. I drew layers in the front, and a ruffle that went around one half of the neckline. I want to Sharpie in ruffles on everything now. Since these were just temporary for the lab class, I put the whole thing together with pins. When I took it off to return the form, I had a strip of random marker ruffles. Somehow, I find that hilarious.

All in all, not great, but I think it has enough for my first "wing it" project. I can definitely say that I can do better, though.

3D Armor Model

My first 3D project this semester.

I'm looking forward to making the real thing, although I can see were I have some tweaking to do. The cups are too pointy. I'll flatten them out before I move onto the final material. In the bottom picture the bottom curve was still tucked under from being smushed in my bag. It's actually peplum, but that can be fixed by paying attention next time. The more pressing issue is that the back is more eye catching than the front. This is the first time I've turned a design into something real, even if I am using metal and plastic instead of fabric.
